via [info]missrachael, noting that this is worksafe, kidsafe, familysafe, etc., and entirely safe for everybody and every animal in the video (but may not be safe for any boxes of tissues you have handy):

I can imagine no circumstances in which a person would not be glad s/he watched this video.

I'm not ashamed to admit that this made me cry.

Oh my God.

No words.

I was a cynic, yes I was. I've got to admit, right before watching this, I thought, "This won't make me teary. It's about a man befriending a lion? Stupid man, doesn't he know lions can and will turn on him someday?"

I still totally bawled. Absolutely the sweetest thing.

I saw this earlier today on Cute Overload and got misty-eyed, and it's so good I had to watch it again here.

When you've had just a little ol' house cat do that same maneuver all over your face, you know the warm fuzzies it generates. And that's like, 20 times as much right there.

I love the GIANT grin on the blond guy's face.

Yeah--everybody just looks so happy. The blond guy's grin kills me every time.

d'awwww!

That touches even my cold, jaded and cynical heart!

Holy crap. Have you ever read the Clan of the Cave Bear books? 'Cause this is *exactly* what happens in...I think Valley of the Horses? With the hand-raised/now-wild lion hopping up on Ayla's shoulders, and bringing his lady friend to visit, and the whole thing. The video is totally sweet on its own, but that makes it *way* more awesome!

Oohmigosh this was one of the best videos I'd seen when it first made its rounds and everytime I see it I still cry too.

That is totally not work safe. It caused a massive allergic reaction in my eyes all of a sudden

I totally had the same problem. I figure Youtube is getting cheap and replacing its electrons with tree pollen.

But, MAN. Only the Brits can pull it off, eh? Americans don't work the same way (a la Sigfried and Roy...)

I've seen this a couple times and each times makes me cry like a baby. Gawd, it's SO sweet!

This is from Born Free (sorta). BFD.

Mrs. [info]geah (who also was unimpressed) did some research. It appears that some of the information in that video is inaccurate.

Actually, from what I can tell, it's from the documentary "Christian the Lion at World's End," so your comment is accurate to the extent that it's accurate to say the Zapruder film is from Oliver Stone's "JFK."

It appears that some of the information in that video is inaccurate.

Yeah--the guy's name was apparently Ace Bourke, not Ace Berg. The female lion in the video was not particularly happy to see the guys. And apparently they didn't have to go hunting around for the pride--after being away from the preserve for 9 months, Christian showed up and started hanging out nearby a day or two before the guys were set to arrive (which may be a coincidence, but which, if they reported it in the video, wouldn't change my reaction to it at all).

For me (and, I'm assuming, for the rest of my non-Grinch readers), none of that really makes a lot of difference. The point of the video is the look of transported, disbelieving joy on both guys' faces, and Christian's obvious love for both of them.

Apparently they were aided by the Born Free Foundation, and the story is similar.

Note the "(sorta)".

I guess what didn't work for us is that our highly accurate Bullshit Detectors™ went off and that pretty much ruined it Hallmark value.

make me cry at work!

okay. that was just mean.

Dammit, Whitney Houston! Making me all teary with your pre-crack soul-stylings.

also, I was sort of expecting (hoping?) that on one of the last head nuzzles, as Whitney hit a high note, the lion was just going to rip his face off in one swoop. blame the internets:)
